Close the Gap - Hood to Coast Relay 2024

Our team, Close the Gap, really enjoys running relays each year, but what really motivates us is raising money to fight cancer.  Close the Gap represents the gap between cancer and the cure.  We run for team members who have beat cancer, we run for members and family who have lost their battle, and we run for those bravely fighting.  We have raised over $960,000 for cancer research since 2007.  So much has happened since 2007 and research is making a major difference. For example, research has led to improved screening tools and targeted treatment options to take cancer down. Because of research, there are more survivors in the United States than ever before!

Close the Gap is running for the V Foundation.  Jimmy Valvano’s famous words, “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”® inspired the V Foundation.  The charity he founded gives 100% of all direct donations to cancer research.  To date the V Foundation has granted over $353 million to cancer research. 

Please support our cause.  We all have been impacted by cancer, and this research matters.  It is wonderful to see the breakthroughs happening every day, but occasionally there are cruel reminders that there are some cancers that we just don’t know enough about.  We pray for the day there is no gap between cancer and cure.  As Coach V said, “We need money for research. It may not save my life. It may save my children’s lives.  It may save someone you love.”
