My Dad's Story

I am raising money and running the 2023 Chicago Marathon for my dad, Robert. In March of 2022, my dad was rushed to the emergency room after experiencing multiple falls, loss of speech, and generally not being himself. After a few hours with dozens of tests being run, the doctor came back with the news no one ever wants to hear, diagnosing him with a Grade IV Glioblastoma; a rare and the most aggressive form of brain cancer. 

Less than 24 hours after his diagnosis, my dad went into surgery to have the tumor removed and then began a long road to recovery which included radiation and chemotherapy. Through it all he has kept his spirits high, maintaining his well-known sense ofhumor and finding new ways to bring joy to others, which he has now found through painting. One of Robert's favorite activities prior to his diagnosis was cooking. He was always the cook for our family growing up, and it was something he was determined to be able to do again. Despite there being some trouble remembering the process for some things, my dad never gave up getting back to doing what he loves and is now enjoying cooking again on occasion!

While we know the prognosis and time left may be short, my dad has committed to fighting cancer and doing everything he can to make an impact on the world. To further his impact and truly never give up his fight, my dad has graciously donated his body to medical research in the state of Florida to help further brain cancer research. Your donation to the V Foundation will support this research as well and help to ensure that one day, no person or their loved ones will have to face a cancer diagnosis.
